Siaya Governor James Orengo is set to share the podium with President William Ruto on Wednesday during the official handover of the Raila Amolo Odinga Mausoleum at Kang’o ka Jaramogi in Bondo.
The event is expected to attract national attention as political leaders and Raila Odinga’s family and supporters gather to honour the late former Prime Minister and opposition chief, whose death last year left a major political vacuum.
Orengo, one of Raila’s long-time political allies, will host the ceremony as Ruto officially hands over the mausoleum, marking a significant moment in the preservation of the former Prime Minister’s legacy.
This is the first time the two leaders will be meeting in months.
Orengo has been overly critical of Ruto’s administration and is leading the opposition push to unseat Ruto.
The governor on Tuesday evening held final preparations ahead of the ceremony, meeting Raila’s widow, Ida Odinga, at Opoda Farm before making a final walkthrough of the mausoleum grounds.
“Spent the evening with Dr. Ida Odinga at Opoda Farm, followed by a final walkthrough at Kang’o ka Jaramogi. Tomorrow, I am honored to host the official handover of the Raila Amolo Odinga Mausoleum in Siaya. Karibuni Siaya!” Orengo said.
The appearance of Orengo alongside Ruto is likely to draw political interest given the governor’s prominent role in the opposition camp and his longstanding association with Raila’s political movement.
The event also comes at a politically sensitive period as parties and opposition leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Raila’s legacy has increasingly become a focal point in political conversations, with rival camps seeking to associate themselves with his record and influence, particularly in Nyanza
