Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka wing of the Azimio la Umoja have proposed DCP boss Rigathi Gachagua and Siaya Governo James Orengo to takeover Raila’s 2022 political machine.
The move follows resignation of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta who was until today the coalition’s chairman.
The late Raila Odinga used Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance in the 2022 presidential contest against President Ruto.
The Coalition rebranded last month to The Ukombozi Alliance (TUA)
Metro News has established that Democratic Congress Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua and Siaya Governor James Orengo are among the names being floated to take over the influential position and steer the coalition as opposition parties reposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The development comes at a time when Gachagua’s allies had distanced themselves from the Kalonzo led rebranded coalition.
It therefore remains to be seen whether the former Deputy President willake a U-turn and accept the new role.
The proposals to have either Gachagua or Orengo take up the role, according to sources in Kalonzo’s camp, could have far-reaching implications for the ongoing efforts to unite opposition parties under a common political vehicle ahead of the 2027 polls.
